Events at the University of Wisconsin-Madison - April, 2024
The U.S. Soldiers and Veterans Who Opposed the War exhibit was shown to visitors at the Wisconsin Historical Society on the University Library Mall.
There were two panel discussions held in conjunction with the event. The first was entitled “Soldiers in Revolt” and was hosted by John Nichols and moderated by Al McCoy while featuring David Cortright, Ron Haeberle, and Susan Schnall. The second was entitled “Healing War’s Legacies” and was moderated by Edwin Martini while featuring Ngo Xuan Hien, Chuck Searcy, and Heather Bowser with comments by Brad Geyer, Dr. Eileen Ahearn, and Mike Boehm.
Several film screenings took place including the documentary films “The War at Home,” “Sir! No Sir!,” and “Hunting in Wartime.” Additionally, Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ performed music before the screening of the “Whistleblower of My Lai” in which she played a starring role.
Additionally, Le Ly Hayslip visited for a book talk and signing in support of her memoir “When Heaven and Earth Changed Places.”
Finally, an essay contest challenged students to reflect on their experience viewing the exhibit.
