The exhibit opened at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, co-sponsored by the Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies, the Oral History Master of Arts, Mott-Haven Oral History Project and Associate Professor Lien-Hang T. Nguyen. The program featured poet Jan Barry, author of Earth Songs II: Poems of Love, Loss and Life and veteran activists Howard Levy and JJ Johnson, both of whom spent years in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary, and Susan Schnall, who was sentenced to six months of hard labor for leading an antiwar march while in uniform. Dr. Levy was convicted for refusing to train Green Beret combatants. Johnson was one of the Fort Hood Three, the first soldiers to publicly refuse to deploy to Vietnam.
